In the wake of a recent spike in new reported cases of Covid-19, Uttar Pradesh will impose a nationwide lockout on Sunday. This Sunday, all cities and rural areas throughout the state will be placed on lockdown. In addition, the state government has agreed to levy a Rs 1,000 fine on anyone who is caught without a face mask. Although the first offence carries a fine of Rs 1,000, a second offence by the same individual carries a punishment of Rs 10,000. Covid-19 has now infected over 1.11 lakh people in the province. This Sunday lockdown would only not affect essential services. Except for companies that have critical services, all workplaces will be closed on Sunday. New Covid-19 hospitals will be developed in accordance with community requirements. Local hospitals in Uttar Pradesh will be turned into coronavirus treatment centres at the same time. According to the UP government, patients in home isolation will be cared for as well. Covid-19 support desks will be set up in strategic positions in the province. The decisions were made at a meeting of the state's top officials on Friday, which was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
