Mrs World 2019 Caroline Jurie was arrested on assault charges after she yanked the crown from the current Mrs Sri Lanka, Pushpika De Silva. On Thursday, police in Colombo arrested the present Mrs World on assault charges after an on-stage brawl in which she yanked the crown from the new Mrs Sri Lanka's head. Caroline Jurie yanked the crown from Pushpika De Silva minutes after she was crowned Mrs Sri Lanka 2020 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo on Sunday.
Mrs Sri Lanka the previous year had went on to win the Mrs World competition, which was organised by a California-based corporation. After the event, which was witnessed by shocked spectators in a packed venue as well as a live social media audience, De Silva required hospital care. A senior police officer, said, "We have arrested Jurie in connection with a charge of assault and causing harm to the theatre.
“I believe, for the first time in the history of beauty pageants, not in Sri Lanka but in the world, even though my crown has been snatched in front of everybody insultingly, I would hold my head straight at this moment of writing and state that I am humble and proud as before,” Pushpika wrote in a lengthy Facebook message. For me, this is yet another incident.” All of this was done by Jurie on the basis that Pushpika is a divorced woman, and she must be married to be fit. “On the other hand, I'm not a divorced woman,” she said. And at this moment of writing, I can confidently state that I am not a divorced woman. I'd dare them to apply my divorce scripts if I were divorced.”
