Covid-19 updates

As coronavirus cases continue to rise across India, the Kerala government has imposed new restrictions to stem the spread of infection, limiting social events to a maximum of 100 people indoors and 200 people outdoors. Shops have been told to close by 9 p.m., and restaurants must operate at 50% capacity. Religious leaders have been urged to convince people to avoid group meetings, especially on Iftar, as well as malls and theatres, which have been asked to limit attendance. Poll-dependent Kerala is one of the top ten states in India, accounting for more than 80% of all new infections recorded on a regular basis.

Even as the number of coronavirus cases in the state continues to increase, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Tuesday that the state government is not in a position to impose a state-wide lockdown to stop the spread of the virus. He did claim, however, that the lockout in Karnataka could be stopped if citizens behaved in a COVID-appropriate manner.

With a new wave of coronavirus cases in the national capital, demand for oxygen cylinders and concentrators has tripled among the 17,000 people living in home isolation across the city. The Delhi government, on the other hand, has stated that it is expanding its medical facilities in order to combat the recent COVID outbreak. On Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a summary meeting in the national capital to discuss the COVID-19 situation. Following the meeting, Delhi's chief minister said that multiple measures are being taken to raise the number of beds in both private and public hospitals. According to government officials, certain government and private hospitals will be turned back into entirely COVID facilities.
