Centre Releases Over ₹ 4,600 Crore Grant For Rural, Urban Local Bodies.

The Finance Ministry has allocated Rs 4,608 crore to the states for grant-in-aid to local government bodies. The grants were allocated in compliance with the 15th Finance Commission's guidelines. The Ministry of Finance has released a total of Rs 87,460 crore in local body grants to 28 states for the fiscal year 2020-21. Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) are also eligible for grants (ULBs). RLBs will receive Rs 2,660 crore, while ULBs will receive Rs 1,948 crore. Of this, Rs 60,750 crore have been released for RLBs, while Rs 26,710 crore have been released for ULBs. ULB grants are divided into two categories: grants for cities with populations of one million or more, and grants for cities with populations of less than one million. The basic grant is 50%, and the remaining 50% is tied to drinking water (including rainwater collection and recycling) and solid waste management.


This amount is in addition to funds given by various Centrally Funded Schemes such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), and others.
